Production Association “Mayak” to cement medium-activity waste for 850 years

Public hearings and discussion of the project “Establishment of liquid and heterogeneous medium-activity waste cementing complex” took place at the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Production Association “Mayak” (Ozersk, Chelyabinsk region).

The project presupposes cementing of medium-activity waste products and their secure storage in a solid state in “mortuaries” for 850 years until complete neutralization.

The project will be financed from the federal budget. It will help to solve the problems of medium-activity waste treatment and to shut lake Karachai water area.

It should result in improvement of ecological situation and reduction of the impact on human environment.
